This fully funded Bilateral Masters scholarship is for students from South Africa and neighbouring sub-Saharan African regions who need assistance to sponsor their Masters coursework program.

This financial aid is open to students in the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. This University is commonly addressed to as Wits University, and its location is 1 Jan Smuts Ave, Braamfontein, Johannesburg, 2000, South Africa.

The following Masters course programs (mostly school of architecture and planning) are covered by this financial aid:

  • Master of Urban Studies in the field of Sustainable Energy Efficient Cities – MUS (SEEC).

Scholarship value and inclusions


  • Fully funded tuition fees.
  • Monthly allowance that will cover the living expenses and accommodation of selected applicants.

Eligibility Requirements


  • Proof of English proficiency is required, since the University of the Witwatersrand is located in an English-speaking region.
  • Interested applicants must be from South Africa or among the list of countries above.
  • Not more than 6 years should have passed since the interested applicant obtained his/her Bachelor's degree.
  • Interested applicant must have applied for admission in University of the Witwatersrand, and must have chosen of the courses covered by this financial aid.

Other things to know about this scholarship program


The ‘person number’ given to applicants upon admission request should be submitted alongside the scholarship application form.

Applicants that obtained their Bachelor's degree in a university outside of South Africa will have to consult the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). The reason behind this is to have the result accessed. The assessment will determine whether the result is equivalent to that of South African academic standards or not.

The deadline for this fully funded financial aid is 30th September, 2021. This date is when the application for Postgraduate programs will be closed in the host university.
